Council of the Village of Smithville adopted a resolution (Resolution 2020-6) on April 6, 2020 temporarily suspending water and sewer shut-offs due to non-payment and all penalties associated with non-payment or late payment for water and sewer accounts.
June 16, 2020 Council of the Village of Smithville voted to rescind the temporary suspension created by the April 6, 2020 Resolution 2020-6. Ordinance 2020-14 was passed to establish a payment plan policy for delinquent accounts that accrued between March 31, 2020 and July 10, 2020. Any customer that developed a delinquency during the period of March 31, 2020 to July 10, 2020 shall be able to pay one-sixth (1/6) of their outstanding balance in addition to their regular monthly billing. Failure to pay will result in the customer reverting to the customary non-payment and/or delinquent water shut-off policy.
The Village of Smithville will begin issuing notices for shutoff and resume enforcement of late penalties and non-payment penalties for water and sewer bills effective July 10, 2020.
